The First Day at the New School

Today was Little Frog Bimo’s first day at his new school after moving to his new home.

At breakfast, Bimo asked his mom, “What is the new school like?”

Mom smiled and said, “You’ll find out soon!”

On the way to school, Bimo held his mom’s hand very tightly and whispered, “Mom, will you stay at school with me today?”

Mom bent down, gently patted Bimo’s head, and said with a warm smile, “Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll soon love this new school and your new teacher and classmates. I’ll come pick you up after school.”

The new school was at the foot of a small hill. Teacher Owl was already waiting at the entrance, along with another little frog.

Teacher Owl said kindly, “This is Rola. She’s in the same grade as you. She’s also the long jump champion at our school!”

Looking at the friendly Teacher Owl and smiling Rola, Bimo felt less nervous.

Bimo followed Teacher Owl and Rola into the school. He looked around with curiosity. The classrooms were neat and bright. On the playground, there were all kinds of fun things—swings, slides, a sandbox, balance bikes, and even his favorite—a trampoline!

When they reached the classroom, the other students warmly greeted him. There were Little Rabbit, Little Hedgehog, Little Raccoon, Little Monkey, and Little Mole.

Teacher Owl asked everyone to sit in a circle and told one interesting story after another. The whole class burst into giggles and laughter. Slowly, Bimo stopped feeling nervous. He began to like his new school.

Next came physical education class with Teacher Goat. Teacher Goat stood in the middle of the playground and said with a smile, “Today, we’re going to have a race.”

“We’ll start from the school, and the finish line is by the lake next to the little forest.”

“There are no rules about the route. You can choose how you want to go.”

“Ready - GO!” At the signal, all the little animals dashed off. Little Rabbit zoomed ahead in a flash, and the others followed close behind.

Bimo hopped forward as hard as he could. But after only a short while, his breathing became heavy.

“Huff… huff…”

“Why am I so slow…”

He watched the others getting farther and farther away, and he felt a little worried. Just then, he saw Rola hopping hard nearby.

“We can’t catch up with the others. We’re definitely going to be last,” Bimo said sadly.

“It’s okay,” Rola replied. “As long as we keep moving forward, we’ll reach the lake.”

Suddenly, Bimo stopped and called out, “I’ve got an idea!”

He pointed to the sparkling little river not far away. “Doesn’t this river lead to the forest? We can swim through the river! The teacher said we can choose any route.”

Rola hesitated. “But the river goes around and takes a longer path. This road is the shortest way to the lake.”

Bimo thought for a moment and said seriously, “That’s true. But if we follow the current, it will be much easier—and much faster.”

Bimo opened his big mouth, took a deep breath, and whispered to himself, “I’m going to try.”

Rola looked at him and nodded.

So the two little frogs jumped into the river. As soon as they entered the water, they felt light and relaxed. They moved smoothly with the flowing current. They didn’t feel tired at all—in fact, they felt wonderful.

They swam and chatted at the same time. The water shimmered gently, and the sunlight danced on the surface. The river curved through the field, and even though the path was longer, Bimo got to see things he had never seen before—tall oak trees, thick patches of bluebells, and even a beaver’s home.

At last, they reached the lake. Teacher Goat was standing there. When he saw them coming out of the water, he said happily, “You used your own special strengths. That’s smart!”

Bimo and Rola both smiled.

From that moment on, Bimo truly loved his new school—and his new teachers and friends.
