The Flowers Brought to School
One morning, Bimo walked along the path to school. Sunlight shone down through the tall leaves above. The air smelled softly of flowers.
As he walked, Bimo suddenly stopped. In the grass by the side of the path, a small patch of flowers was blooming. The petals were soft pink, and the centers were bright yellow. They swayed gently in the breeze.
“So pretty,” Bimo whispered.
He carefully picked a few flowers and held them up to his nose to smell them. Then he thought for a moment and gently placed them into his backpack.
“I want to bring them to school,” he decided.
At school, Bimo gave the flowers to his friends. Everyone gathered around right away.
“Wow, they’re beautiful!”
“They smell so good!”
“Thank you for the flowers!”
Everyone was very happy.
Just then, Little hedgehog suddenly asked, “Did you grow these yourself?”
Bimo froze for a moment. He looked at his friends’ hopeful faces. He hesitated, then nodded.
“Wow, you’re amazing!”
“You know how to grow flowers!”
“That must be really hard!”
The compliments poured in. As Bimo listened, his heart felt sweet.
The next morning, Bimo woke up extra early before school, and he found many, many beautiful flowers. One by one, he carefully picked them and brought them to school.
This time, he gave flowers to even more classmates. Everyone crowded around him, talking happily.
“You’re awesome!”
“How can you grow so many flowers?”
Bimo’s face turned red from all the praise. Inside, he felt more and more proud.
On the third day, Bimo tried even harder. He searched everywhere for flowers—in gardens, under trees, by fences. If he saw a flower, he picked it. That day, he brought a huge bunch of flowers to school. More and more classmates gathered around him, talking with him and playing with him.
Bimo felt like everyone liked him even more now.
For many days after that, Bimo spent a lot of time looking for flowers. On one hand, he enjoyed all the praise from his friends. On the other hand, he felt a little uneasy inside. He wanted to tell them the truth—that he hadn’t grown the flowers—but he was too afraid.
After a while, the flower season ended. There were fewer flowers along the road. The flowers in the grass were gone. Bimo stood in front of the empty patch of grass, feeling worried.
“What should I do?”
“I still need to bring flowers to school tomorrow.”
In the next few days, it became harder and harder to find flowers. One day, on a small hill near the school, Bimo spotted a cluster of bright flowers growing in a crack between the rocks. They were high up, but they were more beautiful than any flowers he had seen.
Bimo thought about it and decided to pick them anyway.
He slowly climbed up the hill and finally reached the flowers. He was very happy when he picked them.
But—he couldn’t climb back down.
The wind blew against him, making him shiver. The sky slowly grew darker.
“Help me—!” Bimo shouted loudly.
Just then, Little Squirrel Taka happened to pass by. He heard Bimo calling for help and ran over.
“Don’t worry,” Taka said. “I’ll go get Teacher Goat to help you.”
Soon, Teacher Owl and Teacher Goat both arrived. Teacher Goat nimbly climbed up the hill and carefully rescued Bimo.
Sitting on the ground, Bimo could not hold back anymore. He burst into tears. He told Taka and the teachers everything—how he had been picking flowers and giving them to his classmates.
“I lied to everyone… I didn’t grow those flowers,” he said softly, lowering his head.
“I want to tell everyone the truth… but I’m scared they won’t like me anymore.”
Teacher Owl gently patted Bimo’s head. “If you tell everyone the truth, they will like you even more. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Taka.”
Taka smiled. “That’s right. We love the flowers you gave us, whether you grew them or picked them. And even if you don’t bring flowers, I still like playing with you. Just remember—not to climb so high next time.”
Bimo opened his big mouth, took a deep breath, and whispered to himself, “I’m going to try.”
The next day, Bimo did not bring any flowers to school. He gathered his classmates together and bravely said, “I want to tell you something.”
“Those flowers… I didn’t grow them.”
“I picked them on the way to school.”
“I’m sorry for letting you think I grew them.”
After saying those words, Bimo suddenly felt much lighter.
Just then, Teacher Owl took out a bag of seeds and a little shovel. “Today,” she said, “we’re all going to learn how to plant flowers together.”
Everyone cheered happily. The sunshine shone on their faces—and this time, it was even more beautiful than the flowers.
